this time over Cadishead Rhinos, to maintain their 100% start in the NWML Division Four at Monks Sports Club on Saturday afternoon.
Rovers opened the scoring in the seventh minute when a kick from Billy Maunder was charged down and prop forward Richard Potts picked up the loose ball and put loose forward Callum Moore over under the posts. Stand off Jake Eccles converted and three minutes later another fine kick from Maunder was collected by full back Liam Sullivan and he passed back to Maunder who scored at the left of the posts. Eccles added the conversion.
Midway through the half Rovers substitute Sam Files powered through a gap in the Cadishead defence and he found centre Dani Garcia O’Brien who put winger Alex Dunne over in the right corner and then just before the half hour a fine ball from S Files found fellow substitute Max Ainsworth who scored at the left of the posts. Eccles added the conversion to make the half time score 22-0 in Rovers favour.
Rovers moved further clear fifteen minutes into the second half when a lovely ball from Garcia found Dunne out wide to score in the right corner. Eccles converted superbly from the touchline and then eight minutes later hooker Adam Files scooted from dummy half to score under the posts. Eccles added the conversion.
Rovers had Maunder sin binned six minutes from time for foul play but they finished on the front foot when A Files went over on the right a minute later to complete an excellent 38-0 win.
After the game Rovers ‘A’ coach Andy Penny said, “I was absolutely delighted with the all-round team display once again; the conditions were very difficult but the way we coped was really pleasing. We were excellent in attack but I thought our defensive effort was top class. To keep any team pointless is great, especially on a day like today, and every player deserves great credit for that. We have a week off next week but will be raring to go the following week against Westhoughton Lions.”
