Defensive stalwart David Palmer departs the Ddus to take on a management role

After 4 years at the Welfare, David Palmer has decided to take on a fresh challenge and become Player / Manager at local Rivals Cefn Fforest AFC.

Palmer joined the Welfare back in 2013 and since then he has been a key member of the Welfare both on and off the field. On the field he will be remembered for his no nonsense defending but also his ability to pop up with vital goals when needed.

During Palmers stay he made over 100 appearance for The Welfare and scored close to 20 goals. He helped The Welfare reach 3 cup finals, Scoring a vital equaliser against Fairfield in a county motors cup semi final that we went on to win 4-3 and he also scored the opening goal against Albion Rovers in last seasons cup final defeat. His last Welfare goal came in this seasons 6-1 home victory against Cwm FC

Palmers last playing appearance was back in August in a 3-1 victory against Pentywnmawr but an injury during that game has forced him to miss out since then and given Dai time to think about his future.

Off the field Dai has always shown a keen interest in Management, managing the Reserve side 2 seasons ago and then last season taking over the under 18s mid season. He transformed the under 18s and turned them into one of the best footballing sides in the league whilst gaining huge respect from his players.

We have no doubt that Dai will be a huge success at Cefn Fforest and he will be missed both on and off the field at The Welfare.

The club would like to put on record its gratitude to Dai for his commitment and attitude on the field and also his dedication off the field.

Good luck Dai
