If you thought rugby was just a sport for men, then think again. Participation in women’s rugby has doubled in the past 10 years, the England women’s team won the World Cup last summer and with the Rugby World 2015 fever in full flow, there’s never been a better time for women and girls to give the sport a try.
On Saturday October 3rd at 1pm we are offering a free ‘Pitch up and Play’ session, open to women of all abilities and ages. We’ll be encouraging you to play to your strengths - whether you’re fast, agile, tall or strong, our Pitch up and Play session will empower you to unleash your inner toughness.
What is Pitch Up and Play?
Our Pitch Up and Play session has been carefully designed to be inclusive, enjoyable and informative. It doesn’t matter whether you’re brand new to rugby, a sofa supporter or a returning player, we will shape the session to your experience and preferences.
On arrival, you will be able to choose what you want to achieve (fitness, fun, social etc.) which helps our professional coach understand what you want to get out of the session and then shape it for you. So whether you are just looking for fun, fancy some competition or want to focus on fitness, we’ll help you achieve your goals, build confidence and discover what makes you strong. We have some great Community Coaches from England Rugby as well as Ex-England Women’s Forwards Coach – Graham Smith!
During the session we’ll introduce you to, basic skills, fitness techniques and elements of match play in a fun and relaxed environment. You might even get to have a go at tackling!
The session lasts for 2 hours and we’ll be putting on some refreshments afterwards so you can meet other participants and members of our local Women’s Rugby teams.
How much does it cost?
The session is completely free. You don’t need to be a member of one of our clubs to take part.
What equipment do I need?
All you need is a pair of trainers, some clothes that you can comfortably exercise in and we recommend bringing a drink bottle.
Can I bring a friend?
You can come on your own, in a pair or in a group. During the Pitch Up and Play session you’ll get to meet the other participants so don’t worry about coming on your own.
