In only their second home match of the season Abercwmboi First Team welcomed Fairwater to "The Village". The Youth who were also playing at home beat Gilfach Goch in a friendly, whilst the Second Team match away at Gilfach Goch was called off as Gilfach could not field a team.

The Match started a fast pace and Fairwater were first on the scoreboard with a penalty from in front of the posts which was converted by their hooker. Shortly after the visitors again gained good possession and their Outside Half put in a fine cross kick which was gathered by the left wing who was only stopped on the 22metre line by some good cover defence. This seemed to wake up the home team and after only 5 minutes a good team move was finished off with a try from Second Row Gavin Hay to put Abercwmboi 5 - 3 in front. After this the Village took control for long periods and were rewarded on 15 minutes with another really good team try finished off by Second Row and captain Adam Stacey. The Fairwater pack fought back well, winning some good ball, which was cleverly used by their Outside Half to pin Abercwmboi back into their own half. After a penalty, on 30 minutes, from the visitors which failed to find touch the ball was run back by full back Paul Edwards who linked up well with Lee Jarvis and Gavin Hay who in turn put in Jordan Rees to score an excellent try. Abercwmboi kept up the pressure and created another opening, however, the player stepped over the dead-ball line before touching down, leaving the half-time score at 15 - 3.

The second half was played mostly in the visitors half, but some wrong options, some snatching at passes and good defence form Fairwater meant that scoreboard did not move. The Village were not helped when they had to reorganise after scrum half Tom Owen suffered a knock. With just 5 minutes left Abercwmboi set up an number of rucks and strong, direct running from centre Dylan Fiddler and others meant that the half backs had some good ball to work with leading to wing Ryan Williams being put in to score his first try for the club. The conversion by Paul Jones bringing the final score to 22 - 3, with the bonus point pushing Abercwmboi to the top of the League.

Next Week the Firsts travel to Treharris, the Seconds are at home to Cilfynydd. The Youth have a tough match at home to Risca in the first round of the WRU cup.
We are also trying to arrange a match for the Seconds on Wednesday evening.
