A busy week for Abergavenny Bowls Club with the ladies and the men’s GBL team playing two league games each and the MBA side playing a friendly fixture at Panteg Park.
Abergavenny Ladies had a successful week winning both of their league games. The first of these was at Chepstow, where each team won on one rink. However, Abergavenny managed to secure victory by the narrowest of margins, 30 shots to 29. Clare Morgan’s rink took control in the second half of the game to turn round a four-shot deficit into a victory by 19 shots to 10. It was the reverse on the rink of Jenni MacGregor as their opponents outscored the Abergavenny rink over the second period, the result of which was defeat by 19 shots to 11. However, the winning of a shot on each of the last two ends helped to secure an aggregate victory for Abergavenny.
The second victory for Abergavenny Ladies was at Caldicot, where they won on one rink and tied the other to win by 37 shots to 26.The result on the rink of Lesley Radley was never in doubt as they established a seven shot lead by halfway and then went on to consolidate that lead and win by 22 shots to 11. Jenni MacGregor’s rink held a five-shot lead with four ends to play but the Chepstow rink finished strongly to secure a tie with each team scoring 15 shots.
Following the ladies team’s successful week, Abergavenny men’s GBL team had similar success with two victories over the past week. Unfortunately, the other two rinks of Maurice Padfield and Colin Griffiths could not quite gain control of their games and lost by 17 shots to 13 and 13 shots to 8 respectively.
Last Saturday Abergavenny’s GBL team welcomed Beechwood for their second league game in two days.
