The league season may have finished but AFC Alsager Storm are still celebrating after what has been a tremendous season for the under 14’s team.
The team joined a new league this year as they wanted to test themselves against new teams both home and away from the Mid Cheshire Youth league. The league now covers most of Cheshire and the challenge of facing all sorts of teams with all sorts of qualities was both a daunting but exciting prospect.
What followed was an enthralling season that saw Storm win, not only promotion, but the league title too. What a way to win it as well, the team recorded 18 wins from their 18 league games to finish with a 100% record and 54 points.
Playing new teams and travelling to new places, Storm really enjoyed their season. Manager Ben had this to say on his sides success ‘We are all obviously thrilled with the outcome, we've been planning to come to this league and challenge ourselves for 2/3 years prior to the move so to come here and win the league at the first time of asking and in such a dominating way is testament to the hard work and effort of the players’ He went on to say ‘We put ourselves in a great position in the league to start with but a terrible winter of weather meant that we had to squeeze 10 games into the last 36 days of the season which was hard work for all concerned, but well worth it in the end!'
The team are now slowly coming down from this season’s huge high and are already back in pre-season training ahead of the challenge that next season and Division 2 will bring them.
Again, everyone at the club congratulates the team for their success, this wouldn't have been possible if any one of the 17 players in the squad hadn't have been there. Manager Ben finished off by adding 'We've never won a league before and it doesn't normally happen to teams like ours. We are a team of mates that like playing football with each other but with their great team spirit and togetherness matched with their effort and hard work this season, has seen them achieve this success . I also want to praise my players for winning this league with huge amounts of dignity and respect for all of our opponents, officials and spectators. This would also not have been possible without the support of the parents too and my thanks and gratitude is extended to them'
We wish Storm all the best again for the 2018/2019 season. Well done Champions!
