Day two of the annual summer youth tournament at Wicor Recreation Ground – one of the biggest and the best in the south – brought over another 50 teams during the morning session competing at under-nines, under-14s and under-15s levels.
Another 50-plus teams arrived in the afternoon to take part in the girls section of the tournament at every age group from under-nines through to under-15s.
The wet start to the day didn’t dampen the spirits of the players, supporters or AFC Portchester’s loyal band of volunteers – who give their tournament weekend up every year to ensure this event is not only one of the biggest and best around but it is also one of the best organised.
Trevor Deacon, chairman and chief finance officer of the club’s main sponsor The OnSite Group, had another busy day presenting medals and trophies – and there were plenty of Portchester winners among them.
During the morning session, AFC Portchester’s Under-15s Saxons won their section and the Under-14 Royals and Under-15s Castles were runners-up in their sections.
In the girls section, the Under-10s and Under-14s were both winners and Under-12 Castles and another Under-14s team were runners-up.
It was another successful tournament weekend, with thousands of players and their supporters enjoying their visit to Portchester, and youth chairman Phil Jeynes issued a big thank you to all of the volunteers who worked so hard over the weekend at the event.
