Haaland? Kane? No it’s AFC Portchester’s Brett Pitman who is leading the goalscoring charts in English football.

The striker netted another goal in the Royals’ 2-0 win over Christchurch at the weekend - taking him to 36 goals for the season.

From the Premier League down to step five of the non league pyramid, Portchester’s goal machine leads the goalscoring charts for the top nine tiers of English football.

And his goal on Saturday saw him become the first player this season in the top nine tiers to reach 30 league goals in the 2022-23 campaign.

Pitman is the front runner of a group of non-league strikers who have all hit 30 or more goals so far this season, with AFC Stoneham’s Duarte Martins closing in on that group with 28 goals to his name.

Looking at AFC Portchester club stats, Brett is closing in rapidly on a number of club goal records.

He only needs three more goals to become the Portchester player with the most goals in a single season - currently Lee Wort (2021-22) and Simon Woods (2011-12) are the joint record holders on 38.

Brett is now the ninth all time highest goalscorer for Portchester during their time in the Wessex League.

He is just two goals behind the man in eighth place on that list - Jason Parish.

Looking at overall club performance, AFC Portchester are currently the highest league goalscorers at step five level in England with a total of 77 goals in the Wessex Premier Division. The Royals have scored 102 goals overall this season so far.

Portchester are also one of only four teams still unbeaten in the league in the top ten tiers of English football - from the Premier League all the way down to Wessex Division 1 level.

It remains to be seen what Brett Pitman's final goals total for the season will be but with a minimum of 18 league and cup games still to be played, there is plenty of time to add considerably to what is already a phenomenal goal tally.
