Taylor and Williams with goals in treacherous conditions!

Southern Region Women's League Match
17th September 23
Woking (A)
FT Result 0-2

The group looked to follow up on last week's success travelling up to Woking for the reverse fixture to that played on the opening game of season. The weather conditions for the fixture were horrendous, with torrential rain, thunder and lightning providing added spice to the game fortunately played on a 3g surface.

The ladies started off poorly, with the first 10 minutes wasteful in and slow and second to the ball best out of possession. Slowly however the team got to grips with conditions, started to control the pace of game and began to threat the Woking back line.

Half chances came and went with Charmaine True trying speculatively from distance before the team forced corners in quick succession. And it was a set piece move that broke the deadlock with True flicking on for PAULA TAYLOR to steer home superbly at the back post 0-1.

HT 0-1

With the weather finally relenting after the break it was Woking again doing the pressing without really threatening Roxy Roberts in the Portchy goal, with a anything from distance being handled well. After a couple of changes and the introduction of fresh legs the ladies began to step it up another gear, causing Woking problem upon problem before EL WILLIAMS latched on to a Ella Wilson pass to beat two defenders and beat the keeper with a lovely near post finish 0-2

That goal effectively killed the game off and ended with the ladies comfortably seeing the game out, thoroughly deserving of the 3pts.

FT 0-2

Ultimately a crazy day in sometimes monsoon like conditions, but a job well done by the squad who all played their part.

POTM Sara Hinton - filled in admirably in the heart of the excellent defence due to the loss before the game to Brooke Marshall. Great game Sara

Hampshire County Women's League Match - Div 3
17th September 23
Alton (A)
FT Result 0-3

What a way to come back after the disappointment of last weeks game. With monsoon rain and thunder overhead we were well looked after by Alton providing free coffee for coaches (very much appreciated).

The ladies were great with the conditions and very little complaining! We got off to reasonable start to the game which was well contested throughout. Alton effectively springing the offside trap on a number of occasions with only the brilliance of our keeper LEONA CULLEN and a last minute sliding tackle from captain and Player of the match Sophie Slimm, keeping the net from bulging.

But after settling, some excellent play out from the back set HARLIE JONES away on the right to run in on goal and chip the GK from close range to take the lead.

This was followed shortly after as CHLOE NICHOLS pounced on a loose ball in the box to slot home and double our lead.

HT 0-2

The second half was even closer than the first but the ladies dug in to protect a deserved clean sheet, whilst also creating a number of chances to increase our lead. That time eventually came after a superb corner delivery from OCEANA ADAMS was met by an equally superb back post header from SOPHIE SLIMM to put us 3 up which is how it ended.

So we continue to evolve as a group and as a coaching staff, but with two wins form the first three games, we are pleased with the progress so far - still plenty of work to do and on to the next we go!

POTM Sophie Slimm
