Womens FA Cup 2nd qualifying round
Eastleigh ITC (A)
Silverlake Stadium
A fantastic experience for the ladies and one that will live long in our club history. There was a degree of trepidation about the game having key players not able to make the game, but with the squad we have we we're confident to be able to contest the game well.
The ladies started very well, organised, relaxed and forcing the play. Chances did come in the form of set pieces with Williams getting on the end of Crewe-Way corner only to head over.
With most of our attacking play developing down our right side opportunities fell to Bradbury only to fire efforts slightly off target, however after some great pressing from Williams to force a throw in the final third and it was Bradbury who turned provider with a pinpoint cross for CHARMAINE TRUE to head home gleefully from 6 yards.
Both sides huffed and puffed before the half time break but really only being restricted from shots from distance rarely troubling both keppers.
HT 0-1
The second half started off the as first finished albeit at a greater intensity, Eastleigh seemingly picking up the pace and probing in our final third, but it take something special to Roxy Roberts who was coping well with anything thrown at her.
Whilst the ladies soaked up pressure they weren't without chances with Charmaine True coming close on two occasions the second a thunderous 25 yard shot that looked like it had gone over line but not given.
The final 10 minutes of the game was frantic with Roberts again thwarting any Eastleigh chances and the ladies breaking dangerously at times.
The final whistle finally went and was met with pure jubilation and relief, the ladies had delivered yet again and thoroughly deserved their moment, and passage into the 3rd qualifying round.
FT 0-1
POTM - Stacy Niven, tireless in the middle of park both providing offensive guile and defensive cover.
The team will now face Pucklechurch Sports Ladies at home on the 22nd of October.
Development Team
Bursleson Reserves (H)
The division 3 match v Bursledon reserves was always going to be a challenge when facing 8 of the Bursledon 1st team who played midweek and were without a game, currently sitting unbeaten at the top of division 1.
Despite this, Portchy looked to get the better start but unfortunately went behind due to a mistake at the back and the striker capitalising on their first opportunity. 3 minutes later SHANIA MOORE calmly slotted home after a goalkeeper spill to take it to 1-1 with her first goal for the club. It was end to end stuff with the Bursledon keeper’s long deliveries causing problems at the back and they took the opportunity to go 2-1 up. Another goal just before the break took the score to 3-1.
Despite the score line, the team were very much in the game and came out after the break creating some great chances, Katie Barker clearing the bar from 3 yards out missing the best of the opportunities. With 2 injuries to our back line after collisions, changes lead to the 4th goal with a lack of organisation which Bursledon capitalised on. A 5th goal in the closing minutes sewed the game with a disappointing result for the development team. Despite this, some positives to take from the game.
POTM goes to AMELIA BARROW making only her second start, stepping up from the U18’s showing the player pathway at its best. A solid performance and an asset to the club.
