Southern Region Women's League
AFC Portchester 7 Abbey Rangers 1
15th October 2023
It was back to league action after a week with no game, and it looked that way for us as the game started slowly with both teams struggling to get any kind of foothold. The breakthrough however did come half way through the first half with a audacious EILIDH CURRIE effort from some 30 yards beating the keeper 1-0.
No sooner had the a game restarted and appeared to settled down CHARMAINE TRUE latched on to a loose ball again some 25/30 yards out giving the keeper little chance 2-0. Further chances came and went and the half ended with ladies seemingly in control.
HT 2-0
The second half started well with further goals coming from CHARMAINE TRUE, EILIDH CURRIE and early first half substitution EL WILLIAMS who changed the game scoring her first of game, with a well taken Abbey Rangers goals sandwiched between which was deserved to make it 5-1. The ladies continued to play some of their best football of the campaign thus far and added two further goals with another couple of wonderful strikes from EL WILLIAMS and SARA HINTON completing the scoring.
FT 7-1
POTM: El Williams - sponsored by Jeff Grove great link up play when coming on and took her goes well.
The team can now turn attentions away from the league and look forward to next weekends 3rd Qualifying FA Cup match with Pucklechurch Ladies in good from.
HCWFL - Division 3
Portchester 4 - 2 H&W reserves
15th October 2023
Following our cup success the previous week, the challenge today was to take that style of play into the league against tough opponents in Havant and Waterlooville reserves. The game also marked our first at our new home pitch at Cams Hill School.
The game started slowly with us struggling to get control of the ball and play our game, unfortunately after a quick long goal kick, Havant took the lead with a route one goal but excellent finish.
That seemed to spark the ladies into life and an after a couple of tweaks, they took control of the game and never looked back. We had a good few chances go begging until HARLIE JONES snuggled one across the line to level the scores.
Jess went close to giving us the lead in half time with a long range free kick that hit the bar with the keeper well beaten.
HT 1-1
Another switch in personnel at half time saw the ladies go on to completely dominate the second half HARLIE added her second of the match whilst new signing JENNA SUTTON opened her account on her debut. Goal of the match came from POTM JESS TIMBRELL with a stunning left foot volley on the turn.
Havant added to their tally too in a rare foray into our half. A good game contested hotly but we ran out deserved winners
FT 4-2
Our pathway continued to show itself in action with two more U18's making their competitive debuts, well done Ashleigh Levett and Maija Adamson.
POTM Jess Timbrell, taking the captains armband for the weekend and leading the team to a home win.
