SAFEGUARDING & CHILD WELFARE 1 of 3

1. Who's Coaching Your Child?

New coach, new parent getting involved and helping out, please ask.. who's coaching my child?

At AFC Portchester Youth our focus is on fun and football development and we are committed to ensuring our players are appropriately coached and supported in a safe and inclusive environment. All our coaches are volunteers and as a minimum they are required to have the following credentials;

1. an FA Enhanced DBS (Criminal Record Check), in-date
2. Completion of FA Safeguarding Course, within two years
3. Completion of Introduction to First-Aid in Football Course, within two years
4. Completion of FA EE Playmaker Coaching Course
5. Completion on FA Introduction to Coaching Level One after 6 months of coaching

Until volunteers have all the above qualifications they are not permitted to:

Assist in any way with coaching at training sessions
Assist in any way on match days or stand on the coaches’ side
Wear AFC Portchester branded clothing while attending training and matches and represent themselves, in any way, as an AFC Portchester Youth coach.

Many of our new volunteers are enthusiastic parents wanting to get involved, and that's great, we always welcome new coaches to the Club but things must be done right.

New volunteers will need to be introduced by the team manager to the Club Committee who will support them to complete all the necessary checks and courses to step up and get involved.

Safeguarding our players is a top priority at this Club. Any person coaching whilst unqualified will be required to attend a committee disciplinary panel hearing which could result in suspension or dismissal from the Club. This could also result in the suspension of the team coach who has allowed an unqualified person to take part. We did say we take this seriously!

f you have any concerns regarding the conduct of a coach or volunteer, please email welfare@afcportchesteryouth.co.uk.

We also welcome good feedback so if your coach has gone the extra mile, we'd like to know.
