In a rather ill tempered match Glens took the honours although it was by no means made easy for them by a very aggressive home side.
Glen's opened the scoring after only 3 minutes when Neil Cameron broke from a maul on the half way line on outpaced the defense to the line. Scott Thomson converted.Three minutes later an off side offense by Glens gave Roy Walker the opportunity to open Garnock's accout with a well taken penalty.
A few minutes later Levi Ekevati took a pass on the home 22 meter line and fought his way to home try line brushing off several attempts to stop him. Again Thomson converted.
Play went from end to end but in was Dan Reilly who made the next score, the ball having passed through the hands of centers Ekevati and Alistair McConnell. The conversion attempt failed as it was from almost the touch line.
Garnock rallied and scored with a push over try converted by Roy Walker. This was followed by a penalty try as Garnock was again attempting a push over try.
At this point Glens lost their scrum half and captain Scott Thomson with a damaged hand but was replaced by the inimitable Fraser Moore.
Just before half time it was Glen's turn to be awarded a penalty try making a half time score of 17 - 26.
Not long after the restart a break by Reilly sent Ekevati in for his second try which was converted by Ryan Moffat who had taken up the kicking duties in Thomson's absence,
By this time Garnock's scrum was totally dominant and were also doing rather well in the lineout. This led to severe pressure on the Glen's try line and inevitably Garnock' s wing Jared Reekie took the last few steps to score.
But again Ekevati showed his worth breaking from the home 22 line to score once again.
Ten minutes from time Garnock was once again pressurising the visitors line which ended in Reekie touching down again. with Walker again converting making the score 29 - 38 making the last few minutes a very tense affair, It was only stalwart defense on the part of the visitors that kept Garnock from scoring again.
A good start to the season for Glens with the five point win.
