Alloa started the new league season with a solid six try victory over Falkirk 2nd
XV.

The Earlsfield side meant business from the outset with a dominant scrummage
giving Alloa's impressive back row of Smith, Taylor and Pope the platform to do
some real damage. Matty Pope joined the backline in a sweeping move that saw
Lee Cairney go over in the corner after 5 minutes. Alloa were back attacking the
same area of the pitch within minutes and this time it was flying winger Brandon
Jardine who provided the finish. It would have been easy for the visitors to fold at
this point however Falkirk dug in defensively and it was telling that Alloa turned
to the boot of Lee Cairney to stretch their advantage.

Alloa's goal for the second period was clear in that doubling their first half try tally
would see them collective a bonus point. As the half progressed then the
influence of Martin McKenzie came more to the fore as he began to ask questions
from both scrum half and stand-off. Martin scored his side's third try and
generally started to raise the pace of the game. A mazy run by Matty Pope
resulted in the flanker being hauled down close to the Falkirk line but the
supporting Robbie Warnock took the offloaded and completed an outstanding first
team debut by plunging over for the bonus point try.

Alloa then began to rotate their squad but still kept the scoreboard ticking
through a second McKenzie try and one from Gary Taylor. Lee Cairney added two
conversions. Again to their credit Falkirk refused to lie down and notched a couple
of tries in the final quarter.
