A Statistical Review of Recent Times - Amman United

A Statistical Review of Recent Times - Amman United

Jamie Davies29 Oct 2013 - 12:10

One for the nerds....

On Saturday 26th October 2013, the Amman United beat Aberystwyth by 59 points to 22. Some of the boys playing last weekend might remember losing to the same side twice in the 2008/09 season by 48 points to nil away, and by 72 points to 3 at home? A hundred and twenty points to three aggregate against Aberystwyth just five seasons ago.

That same year, the Amman finished second from bottom of league Three West losing twenty games out of twenty two, being battered a number of times along the way. Apart from the 72 point score from Aberystwyth, Pontyberem also put 62 on us and even worse was a 97-3 loss away at Cardigan. #Down

How times change.

A few seasons spent in Four West saw 50% of games won in 2009/10 - 11 out of 22, in 2010/11 18 out of 22 won and then being promoted in 2011/12 after winning 20 out of 22, a promotion to Three West brought the 21 wins out of 22 record and now in 2013/14 it is looking very likely that we will be playing Division 1 rugby next season after the league re-structure.

I was going to look at the record for the last 50 games, but as we are 8 games into the new season, with 22 each from the last two seasons, I’ll go with 52. These are some of the statistics for Amman United’s league games:

• From the beginning of the 2011/12 season to date, the Amman have played 52 league games winning 46 and losing 6 bringing an overall win rate of 88% (loss rate of 12%);

• 1873 points have been scored and 685 conceded, giving an average score over 52 games of 36 points for and 13 against;

• Over the last 52 games, the Amman United have scored 276 tries and conceded 84.

• In that time there have been 26 Home league games. 25 of those games have been won (96%) and only 1 lost (4%). The last home league defeat was way back on 10th September 2011, a game we lost by 13 points to 22 against Llanelli Wanderers;

• In those 26 home games, the Amman have scored 1057 points and conceded only 327. The average home score over 26 games is 41 points to 13;

• In the 26 Away games, the Amman have won 21 games (81%) and lost 5 (19%), in these games the Amman have scored 816 points and conceded 358. That’s an average away game winning score of 31 points to 14.

• In 52 games, the Amman have picked up 222 league points, 36 of those have been try bonus points and 2 losing bonus points.

Quite an impressive record, particularly at home with a 96% win rate at Parc Cwmaman. To take it back a bit further, this is the Amman’s record at home over the last 50 games!

• In the last 50 home league games (last dated game was 11th April 2009 – a 12 43 loss against Laugharne), the Amman have won 44 games (88%) and lost 6 (12%);

• In the same 50 games, 1856 points have been scored with 1100 being conceded giving an average score of 37 points to 22. Not a bad record, an average of 37 points per home game!

The home defeats in the last 50 games have been against:

2008/09
Amman Utd 12 Laugharne 43

2009/10
Amman Utd 16 Cefneithin 30
Amman Utd 13 Tenby 21
Amman Utd 18 Trimsaran 27

2010/11
Amman Utd 19 Cardigan 22

2011/12
Amman Utd 12 Llanelli Wanderers 13

What’s also worth noting is the fact that since the beginning of the 2011/12 season, a number of local clubs are also doing very well and are flying high at the top of their leagues, particularly lately, but the Amman come out on top again with an 88% win ratio. These are the others for league games/win ratio since the start of the 11/12 season:

Penybanc RFC – Played 46 Won 40 – 86%

Tycroes RFC – Played 50 Won 42 – 84%

Cwmgors RFC – Played 49 Won 40 – 81%

Pantyffynon RFC – Played 38 Won 19 – 50%

Brynamman RFC – Played 48 Won 21 – 44%

Betws RFC – Played 50 Won 15 – 30%

Llandybie RFC – Played 47 Won 14 – 30%

Ammanford RFC – Played 50 Won 13 – 26%

Let’s not forget that this does not include the cups that we have won in this period as well including that outstanding victory against Cwmllynfell in the CC Evans Cup Final this year.

What’s the reason for the successes of the last few years, is it a lot of the boys maturing at the same time, is it down to Tony and Gareth and the coaching? Probably a mixture of everything coming good at the same time. Is this the best Amman squad in its 110 year history? You decide…..

Roll along Amman United…..Amdani!
