Notes for tomorrow, actually looking like a game being on for a change..

Hopefully these programme notes will make it to the field and be read on the touchlines for a change today instead of the website, the last two written have ended up in the bin after the cancelled games against Penclawddd back in December and last week’s game against Felinfoel. Again, as it’s SWALEC Plate day it’s a 2.00pm kick off so hopefully you haven’t paid your entry fee cursing after missing half an hour of the game.

We enter the third round of the SWALEC Plate this year by default having had a bye in the first round and a free pass through the second after that dodgy batch of cockles wiped out Penclawdd, a match that was given to us by the WRU. Loughor on the other hand have had to work to get here, winning in Llandeilo in Round One and beating Dunvant (our current league leaders) in Round Two. If you didn’t aleady know, Loughor play their league rugby in League One West so we will assume the position of the underdog for a change heading in to today’s game.

Their league form is quite similar to ours. They have played eleven,
won five, lost six with twenty seven tries for and thirty one tries against. The Amman have also played eleven, won six, lost five, but have the forty four tries to our name with thirty conceded. League results of interest of theirs this season are their 34 – 22 loss against Cwmvegas and their 34 – 17 win at Ammanford. We should also take into account the 22 -5 defeat of Dunvant in the last round of this plate. The Amman have played two of these teams in the last few months so at least we have something to gauge today’s opposition. It will be a tough one, but we are at home, so anything can happen (as Cwmllynfell found out in August!).

A hat tip to the Quins again who continue their very impressive form with their away victory at league leaders Ammanford last week. This win not only kept them in touch with the Blue Oyster boys in second place, it also brings them level on points at the top. Their next two games, home and away against Penybanc, will be crucial.

Final word today goes to Eleanor who recently hung up her boots behind the bar after a number of successful years as our club stewardess. I am sure she will have more of a send off than seven lines in a programme but on behalf of everybody associated with the Amman United, including the younger generation who have been in her Xmas parties and us parents who’s kids birthday parties she has catered for over the years, all the best, our many thanks, and we hope she enjoys the respite of not seeing half naked players on a Saturday night. Diolch Eleanor.
