At this time an opportunity exists for Ards Football Club to return home to Newtownards with the development of a new purpose built stadium in the grounds of Movilla High School.
After 14 years of nomadic existence, Ards FC has a new hope of playing once again in our own town and at the same time help to revitalise a local institution - Movilla High School.
The proposal is for a compact stadium of around 2000 capacity to be built on an under-utilised portion of the school's playing fields, bounded by Abbey Road, Upper Movilla Street and Wallace's Street. The stadium will incorporate an artificial pitch, spectator stands, floodlighting, changing room pavilion and parking for 60 cars. No alcohol will be sold on the site.
This facility could host Ards FC home matches, offer training facilities for other local clubs and provide a modern sports pitch for school use. The area in question would remain in Education Authority ownership, but the development would be funded by Ards FC through direct fundraising and grant assistance.
Ards FC has been a part of the fabric of Newtownards for over 100 years and the opportunity to create a new home at Movilla is something that can be beneficial for the club and the school, as well as providing new facilities for the use of the wider community.
