when they lost their second game of the season against Willington at Langwell Crescent. Put into bat, the home side never got into their stride and after opening bowler Reece Carr had snapped up Jack Jessop, Cameron Steel and skipper Sean McCafferty only Jack McCarthy showed any sort of resistance with a defiant and top scoring knock of 23 whilst wickets tumbled at the other end. The hosts had no answer to spinner Will Bosisto - who finished the contest with six for 21 from 14.1 overs - and were bowled out for 117 inside 43 overs. Ashington had the County Durham outfit on 34-3 with Adam Khan, Bosisto and Carr all back in the hut – the latter falling to a stunning catch by McCafferty - but any hopes of victory were dashed as Jake Louth smashed an unbeaten 70 including eight fours and four sixes with the win wrapped up from the third ball of the 33rd over. McCafferty said afterwards: “It was a below par performance and we’ll be looking to put things right next week. There are plenty of games left and although it’s a blow to our hopes of going up, I’m not ruling out our chances. I feel sure there will be more twists and turns before the end of the season.” *Ashington seconds recorded a seven wickets victory over Willington seconds. Adam Gardiner took 3-33 as the home side posted 143 all out. In reply, James Lovat hit a breezy 66. *On Saturday, Ashington firsts are at home to Blaydon whilst the seconds are away to Burnopfield. Both matches start at 1pm.
