in the final of the NE Banks Bowl at Langwell Crescent on Sunday – but was nevertheless proud of the group and acknowledged their efforts. The Gosforth side won by a huge margin of 148 runs and Robinson said: “We got beat off a better team and obviously we’re all disappointed. We didn’t bowl very well at the start and things were looking bleak for us until we pulled it back really well in the middle of the innings. We didn’t really compete and it might have come a bit too early for us – but we didn’t do ourselves an injustice. Along the way we beat Chester le Street and Newcastle – both in division two - a league higher than ourselves - and it was a good achievement by us to get through to the final in the first place.” Robinson’s outfit will now focus purely on promotion aspirations: “We are second in the league table and it’s nip and tuck,” added the Ashington-born 27 year old, “South Northumberland are top of division two and if we were to be successful and make the step up, I’d like us to compete against them - but we will take things as they come.”
