STOCKPORT DO THE DOUBLE OVER TOWN

Ashton Town suffered their second league loss in five days as they were defeated 1-0 at home to Stockport Town on Saturday.

There were half chances for both sides throughout the match but it would be the visitors who scored the solitary goal.

Christopher Sherrington headed home a cross on 20 minutes for what would be the winning touch.

The encounter had big implications in terms of the play-off picture in the NWCFL First Division, and now Ashton sit eighth in the table - six points off the final play-off spot after a disappointing result.

However, John Brownrigg's men do have plenty of games in hand to make up those points, starting this Wednesday night.

They travel to Bacup Borough for an 8pm kick-off.
