Ashton hoping to produce a ‘hats off’ performance as the Robins travel to the Hatters, Written by Tom Langford

Ashton United are back on the road this Tuesday evening as the Robin's take on Stockport County in the Vanarama National League North.

LAST TIME OUT
Ashton’s last league game was a disappointing home defeat to Blyth Spartans. The Robins lost 3-0 to Blyth with the Northumberland based side putting Ashton to the sword in the first half with Blyth racing to a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. The Robins performance picked up in the second half but couldn’t muster a comeback.

On the other hand, Stockport County last played a league game back on the 9th of March with the Hatters participating in the FA Trophy semi-finals. In the FA trophy, Stockport lost 3-2 to National League side AFC Fylde with the Hatters missing out on a trip to Wembley thanks to an 89th-minute goal for Fylde’s Alex Reid.

RECENT FORM
Ashton United head into the game in horrific form with the Robins failing to pick up any points in their last 4 league games. Furthermore, the Robins have failed to score in those 4 defeats. However, on the Road, the Robins have been more reliable with Ashton winning 2 out of their last 4 league games.

On the other hand, Stockport County comes into the game in decent form with the Hatters winning 4 of their last 5 league games. Stockport also best one of the best home records in the League with the Hatters undefeated at Home in their last 12 games and have only lost twice at home in the League all season.

STOCKPORT COUNTY’S SEASON SO FAR

Stockport also boasts the best defensive record in the league with the Hatters only letting in 30 goals all season. Furthermore, Stockport have had a magical run in the FA trophy reaching the semi-finals before finally being beaten 3-2 over two legs to AFC Fylde.

ONE TO WATCH
One player for both travelling Ashton fans and the Ashton’s defence to keep an eye on is star striker Matthew Warburton.

Warburton joined County in May of 2017 and contributed 21 goals in 45 appearances in his first season for the club.
Warburton has continued to develop with the forward bagging 16 goals in the League this season for the Hatters.

Warburton has played for multiple Manchester based clubs with the striker having represented Salford and local rivals Curzon Ashton.

The last time Ashton played Stockport was back in December with the Hatters smashing the Robins 6-0. Braces from both Matthew Warburton and Jake Kirby meant that Stockport left with all three points.
