Not surprisingly with a midweek fixture, there were changes to the Ash United team that at the previous weekend had pulled off a great escape by drawing with Sheerwater in the final minutes of that match. Away to league leaders Farnham Town, this was never going to be an easy fixture, added to which changes needed to be made due to player unavailability - which, at this level of non-league football, invariably affects most clubs.
Play was fairly evenly balanced until five minutes before half-time when Farnham took the lead. 1-0 to Farnham Town. They then doubled their lead just two minutes later to go into the half-time break at 2-0 up.
Ash started off the second half brightly, but there were to be no last gasp goals to level up the game this time. Farnham Town added 2 more goals in the last few minutes of the half. However, Ash did start what could have become a rerun of the previous Saturday's game, when Harry Cracknell scored in the 85th minute. But it wasn't to be; Farnham Town continue to be league leaders; Ash United stay 5th and move on to face British Airways in the next fixture.
This was the first defeat in the league. However, Ash have begun this season in a far better position than in recent seasons.
