The first team were formed under the name of Askern Welfare in 1924 and the reserves thirty years later in 1954. The first team played in the Doncaster Red Triangle League before the Second World War and then the Doncaster Senior League in which they finished runners up in the Premier Division in 1991-92. They joined the Central Midlands League in 1992.

We have also won the Doncaster & District Challenge Cup ten times the last time was in 2007-08. We have also won the Goole & Thorne Cup on several occasions.

The club spent the next 16 season's in the Central Midlands League mainly in the Premier Division and it wasn't until Brian Johnston joined in 2005 that the clubs fortunes changed for the better. He gained promotion in his first full season (2005-06), finishing runners-up in the Central Midlands League Premier Division. The following season they finished fourth in the Supreme Division.

2007-08 saw Askern Welfare become champions of the Central Midlands League Supreme Division and gain promotion to the Northern Counties East Division.

In their first season (2008-09), the club changed its name from Askern Welfare to Askern Villa. They came so close to winning promotion at the first attempt. We pushed Scarborough Athletic all the way, only to fall away in our last six games taking just five points and finishing third, being pipped by Rainworth Miners Welfare.

2009-10, we started as one of the favourites to get promotion and made a great start to the season topping the division at the end of October. But then we lost 3 or 4 key players and after that we struggled to maintain our early promise shown and finished 12th after the league enforced a ten point's deduction.

It was a disappointing 2010-11 season although the club finished a respectable 9th, we were hoping to be pushing for promotion. But the fact that we used 41 players during the season, tells it's own story. With players missing games through holidays, work commitments, injuries and suspensions all taking it's toll on our team selections, we didn't field the same side.

We had some memorable moments too a pre-season friendly against Championship outfit, Doncaster Rovers which resulted in a record attendance (865). We also entered the FA Vase for the first time in the clubs history

But off the field, we finally achieved the ground grading of G, this confirming we can continue to compete in the Northern Counties East League (Step 6 level).

This season the club have reached another landmark by entering the FA Cup. The club continues to move forward and long may it continue.
