On 20th October Aspatria travelled to Aldwinians with an injury hit side and paid the price with a 17:12 reversal. There were no complaints on the day - indeed give how the game unfolded we were pleased to bring home a bonus point courtesy of a late Clegg penalty kick. At this time Manchester based Aldwinians were in good form, they held the league play-off spot in their hands until round 14 of this season’s competition but have since drifted off the pace with a run of narrow defeats.
Today’s encounter against fellow promotion hopeful’s Aspatria is perhaps a last chance for Aldwinians to move back into contention. Similarly, Aspatria cannot afford to see current favourites, Eccles increase their advantage at the top. All of this adds up to a real cracker of a game where the stakes are high. For those teams hoping to follow Wigton into the N1W league each and every fixture between now and the end of the season should be a real shoot-out; just the way we like it down at Bower Park. Enjoy your rugby….
