Astons bogey fixture of recent years is in the immediate future as the Lions look to make it three wins from three league games this season and end a run of two defeats away at Hailey Reserves.
The first defeat against Hailey Reserves at their HQ came under the stewardship of Adam Caswell in the 2012/13 season. The game has since been hailed as the game after the lord mayors show as Aston had played only three days previous in the infamous semi final against Stanton Harcourt in which will always be remembered as the game that red Ross Fleming lost his red head and saw red.
So Aston faced up to Hailey Reserves rather disenchanted after the defeat to Stanton Harcourt. Gaffer Caswell seemed rather flustered and selected a very unexpected but more youthful front pairing in the form of Mike 'big guns' Baker and Alex Timms. Dropping Brown to the subs bench and brother Caswell from the squad entirely.
In a very lacklustre performance Aston lost 1-0. Kev Jones being unavailable the previous week due to a bee sting providing much enjoyment to the jocular Long and team-mates.
In the 2014/15 season Aston also suffered defeat to Hailey Reserves at their HQ. The game followed a debacle at Bourton Rovers in which Aston fielded a bare XI and will not be fondly remembered by any that played in it especially if your surname is Allinson.
So Aston lined up and again a shock was in store in selection but this time the gaffer was Dunstan with Caswell being shoved into a sweeper role behind Wood and Hewer. Phil Isle or pile for short was between the sticks. Charlie Fisher making his debut for the club up front alongside Benji Sundblad.
Aston went 1-0 down very quickly with Mo Semioli and his pace screaming past Caswell and Wood. A retaken Hewer penalty put the scoreline on parity, the first penalty was unbelievably woeful. An atrocious second half display saw Hailey run out 3-1 victors.
So we are hoping this will be third time lucky in more ways than one in a fixture away at Hailey Reserves.
Good luck and watch out for the dubious officiating, you have been warned.
