This season’s highs and lows are pretty insignificant when we think of the devastating effect of the Covid 19 pandemic on our whole way of life. I hope all within the Aston family keep safe, and sane, at this strangest of times.
This season started brightly with an excellent Sevens Tournament in July followed by good numbers at pre-season training and a winning couple of months in the League.
There have been negatives – primarily lack of discipline by players and spectators alike, neither of which ever have or ever will change the course of a game in our favour.
Whilst our 1st XV couldn’t maintain momentum, our Ladies XV romped through the year with only one defeat and were, rightly, awarded the League title and promotion for next year.
The 2nd XV fielded a full team every weekend and, under Neil Wilson’s leadership, has demonstrated every positive characteristic traditionally associated with this great game.
As ever, Matt Pape has been key to the leadership and administration of our Mini & Junior Section.
Many Clubs close the bar and lock-up by 7pm on a Saturday – it’s always great to see our Club full well into the night. Thanks to Julie and her team for putting up with the silly antics and stupid conversations – long may that continue!
A game of rugby doesn’t just happen – so thank you to those who make it possible from washing the kit through to donning the black caps in Disciplinary Meetings!!
No-one knows when the current restrictions will be lifted, the challenge we all face is to ensure Aston Old Eds gets back on its feet as soon and as strong as possible. When allowed, we will arrange a number of events aimed at all parts of the Club – keep an eye on the website and, more importantly, look after yourselves and your loved ones.
