Atherstone Town picked up one point from their Easter Bank Holiday home double header.
On Saturday 30th March they were held to a goalless draw by Wolverhampton Casuals, despite having the better chances.
Mondays 1st Aprils game against Romulus started better as Lewis Collins opened the scoring, but two second half goals saw the Adders fall to a 2-1 defeat.
Next up for Atherstone is another home double header against Stourport Swifts and Bewdley Town.
Results have turned against Atherstone as the season draws to a close, with performances not delivering the points they probably deserved. Two home games in quick succession were seen as a good chance to turn that around but football is rarely so simple.
Against Wolverhampton Casuals the Adders saw more of the ball and created the better chances, but were unable to take them. Toby Bartram had the best opportunity of the first half, but snatched at his chance and fired an effort over the bar.
In the second half, Callum Rudd also fired over when well placed before the Adders were given a golden chance to take the lead. Bartram broke into the box and was brought down by the Casuals goalkeeper, giving the ref no choice but to point to the spot.
Lewis Collins was the man to step up but saw his effort saved low to the keepers left hand side. The save spurred on the away side and they almost stole the win late on as a header from a corner struck the crossbar.
The 0-0 stopped a run of defeats, but felt like a missed opportunity in a game that Atherstone controlled. The quick turnaround to Monday 1st April and a game against Romulus gave a good opportunity to do just that.
This game would start in much better fashion, as Collins broke in behind onto Jamie Spiers through ball before slotting home to open the scoring. The Adders were all over their visitors and looking to extend their lead before an incident that would change the game.
Goalkeeper Finn Osborn was caught late in a challenge with a Romulus forward, leaving him with a knee injury and unable to continue. With no reserve keeper, Lewis Noon stepped forward to complete the rest of the game in goal.
Romulus would take full advantage of this in the second half, equalising almost immediately before taking the lead with a shot from range. Despite the set backs, including a sin bin for Spiers, it was Atherstone that pushed forward and looked to strike back.
Every set piece seemed the cause a problem in the visitors penalty area, Jack Wells saw an effort cleared off the line, and Alex Lock saw a shot clip the bar on the way over. As the game drew on it looked like it would not the Adders day again, which was confirmed when Bartram was sent off for dissent late on.
The defeat was a tough one to take, especially as the Adders had looked in control before the injury to such a key player. The 17 year old Osborn has been superb since coming into the side, and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
There are two more quick fire home games to come with just three games left in the season. Saturday will see Stourport Swifts visit the GAM Civils Stadium before Bewdley Town make the trip on Tuesday 9th April.
As this roller coaster of a season draws to a close, be sure to get a long and show the boys your support and appreciation as they look to build momentum for next season.
