Bostik North Preview | Tilbury FC

Bostik North Preview | Tilbury FC

Aveley Football Club11 Aug 2017 - 18:08

After an injury hit last season, can the Dockers challenge the top six this season?

Last Season Finish: 12th
Year Founded: 1889
Manager: Gary Henty
Key Player: Emiel Aiken

Who are they?
Tilbury Football Club are a football club based in Tilbury, Thurrock, England, established in 1895. In 1976, they won the Isthmian League Second Division. In the 1977–78 season, they reached the Third Round of the FA Cup, their best performance in the competition. They currently play in the Isthmian League North Division.

At the beginning of the 2010–11 season Tilbury appointed Paul Vaughan as their new manager. After a first season where the Dockers flirted with the bottom of the table before a late season rally steered them to safety, Vaughan's second season saw the team finish third in the league and reach the play-offs, where Tilbury were beaten 4–3 in extra time by Needham Market. In the following season, the club started well but inconsistency prevented the club reaching the playoff places and they eventually finished 9th.

Get up to much last season?
Tilbury were plagued by injury last season, losing Emiel Aiken and Tony Martin for several months during the campaign. The freak broken wrist injury that Aiken picked up after a 3-2 win over Brightlingsea Regent (who went on to win the Division), became a double blow only a few days later when Martin injured his back. The Dockers were in and around the play off places, but after a bad run of form they were out of the mix by the end of February.

Aspirations for the 2017/18 season?
Gary Henty reckons the Bostik North will be very tough this season, but if the Dockers can improve on the twelfth position they finished last term, then he will be happy. By keeping the nucleus of the side together form last season and season before that, a team that has that much time to bond will be a very difficult team to come up against, many expect Tilbury to flirt with the play-off places.

Key player Aiken
If Tilbury can get a full season out of Emiel, he will score goals and be a key part to the way the Dockers play. With 25 appearances last season, 9 goals and 5 assists he can be the player to help push Tilbury on to special things this season. In 2015/16 he made 49 appearances, scoring 14 goals and assisting 17 times, showing what a key player he can and will show this season.
