Aveley lose first pre-season of the season, by a wonder strike by Corinthians, halfway through the second half.

For The Millers this game looked as one too many as they were beaten by the Kent League side on a cool Tuesday night. After the battles on Saturday and Sunday against higher opposition this game just with a one day break did look like it took its affect about 35 minutes in the pre-season tussle.

Corinthian Football Club put on a lovely playing pitch for Aveley, which they used to help practice nice intricate passing game. But when're you go to a lower sided team they always want to pull off a shock to boost their club. But the method they used to get into the game was by hacking into everything and every tackle, sometimes being to over committed to a tackle could injure your opponents and due to that on the third minute of the game, Lee Weemes suffered a horror tackle by a Corinthian defender, which from far away looked a bad tackle, but it became apparent that he was stamped on leaving a mark on his ankle. Lee was carried off by substitute Ashley Harris and Lee was replaced up front by Danny Francis.

The opening exchanges, Aveley were the side on top after good play by Bakare as he went pass two Corinthian players, he played the ball into Danny Francis but his shot is well defended as the covering defender managed to deflect the ball behind frvan Aveley corner. Billy Coyne took the corner but the Corinthian goalkeeper was very imposing, as many a chance he came and caught the ball from countless number of free-kicks and also corners, and from Conye's corner their goalkeeper came and collected the ball without being pressured by an Aveley attacker.

A Corinthian defender clears the ball away from the box up the pitch, but only as far as Billy Sendal, he headed it down for Marcus Elliott, Marcus turned ran towards the goal but his shot just fired wide of the goal. Minutes later a poor clearance by Corinthians number 6 goes out for a corner. Sammy Knott took it, landed to Junior Baker but it was defended by Corinthians, but the clearance only went back out to Knott, he crossed it back in, but this time it just went a little to long this time for Baker to prevent it going out behind for a goal kick.

A free kick was awarded after Danny Francis got his heels clipped by a defender, Billy Coyne took the free kick but the ball was cleared behind for a corner. Sammy Knott took the corner again, it hits Junior Baker on the chest, he managed to play the ball across to Billy Holland, he got his left foot onto the ball but he only directed the ball going over the bar. Only two minutes later Aveley once more opened up Corinthian back line as Mat Bakare attacked, he played the ball out wide on the right to Billy Coyne, Billy crossed it but Danny Francis just directed the ball the wrong side of the post.

The next attack that The Millers enforced on the Kent League side ended in Aveley going 1-0 up. The ball found its way out wide for Sammy Knott who crashed in a devilish ball, it landed to Billy Holland who shot and hit the base of the post, it rebounded back to Billy Holland he squared it to Danny Francis who tapped it in from four yards out. Corinthian 0-1 Aveley.

Few minutes went by and again Aveley attacked with great build-up passing play. Again like a magnet the ball found its way to to Marcus Elliott but he was very unlucky as the ball just went wide of the target.

After the last attack the effects of the two games in two days started taking its toll on the team. The Kent side found their way back into the game as they started attacking Aveley. With a few chances with a great cross that flashed across the front of James Marrable's goal but no-one was on the end of it and it got cleared away by Spencor Harrison. Another chance occurred as Corinthian got in behind our defence after a lovely ball by Cor's number 7, which put in their number nine, thankfully it was a tame shot which ended up in the arms of James Marrable.

After that scare everyone would have expected us to become a bit tighter at the back but a defence splitting pass by Cor's number 8 put through a lightning quick attacker and he curled a shot past the dive of James Marrable and into the bottom corner. Corinthian FC 1-1 Aveley FC.

The last action of the first half was by the Millers, a corner came in by Sammy Knott, he went short to Danny Hopkins, he crossed it in towards Junior Baker who headed it back across the goal onto the arriving Spencor Harrison who just nodded it wide of the goal.

Half Time.

The second half compared to the first half it was basically a non-event. About five minutes into the second half Billy Sendal looked to pull something in his thigh and signalled to be taken off, he was then replaced by Aaron Gayle.

Aveley's first attack of the half came from a counter attack off a Corinthian's corner that found its way into the hands of James Marrable, he kicked it forward for Marcus Elliott to chase, Marcus pulled the ball back for Billy Holland who looked up and found Junior Baker who was bombing down the left wing, Baker crossed the ball into Danny Francis but he just hit it wide of the goal. Bakare and Coyne went off, and on came Taylor Nathaniel and Brian Okwera.

Danny Francis attacked down the right hand side but his legs got taken away from him and the free kick was given. Sammy Knott lined up to take it but the free-kick was punched away well by the Corinthian goalkeeper. Billy Holland then came off for the lively new signing Junior Konadu-Yiadom.

The game then sprung to life in the 72nd minute as the deadlock is broken by an absolute wonder goal by the Corinthian right back. The ball fell kindly for the right back and he volleyed it past James Marrable in goal, it crashed the underside of the crossbar and ended into the back of the net. It was an un-saveable volley, worthy of winning any game of football. Corinthian FC 2-1 Aveley FC with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Sammy Knott and James Marrable then went off for the last 15 minutes, they were replaced by Perry Tamburrini and goalkeeper Ashley Harris.

Five minutes of Perry being on he fully commits himself to a 50/50, crunching tackle but for some reason the referee gives Corinthian FC a free-kick. Very impressive commitment to every tackle Tamburrini goes in for.

The time went into added on time and still Aveley bombarded the Corinthian area, the corner is taken short to Junior Konadu-Yiadom who sends a shot whistling over the bar. The referee blows the whistle and Aveley are beaten for the first time this pre-season calendar.

Aveley FC Line-Up: Marrable, Coyne, Knott, Baker, Harrison, Sendal, Hopkins, Holland (C), Weemes, Elliott, Bakare.
Subs: Harris, Okwera, Francis, Gayle, Konadu-Yiadom, Nathaniel, Tamburrini, Mcintire.
