Millers winless run continues at Hayes Lane

With the previous six games ending in defeat, it was a game against struggling Cray that Millers had to win, but conceding two goals in the last ten minutes, gave the win we wanted away, and in the end settled for a point at Hayes Lane.

It all started well for the Millers as they forced the first corner of the game which was cleared well by a combination of Taylor and Patterson to deny Aveley taking an early lead.

Aveley then countered from a Cray Wanderers corner, Alex Stavrinou passed the ball really well out to Teddy Nesbitt, but his cross was cleared for another Aveley corner. The all was crossed in by Teddy Nesbitt, but it didn't beat the first man and it was cleared easily by Patterson again.

Another attack by Aveley, a great ball into the box by Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, and it was cleared brilliantly by Humphrey, but the goal kick was given instead.

Cray Wanderers played a long ball over the top of the Millers back line but Daly shot this time was wide and not very handsome.

All through the first half, the Millers played good football but just couldn't find that cutting edge to carve open the opportunities.

In Aveley's next chance, it should've brought about the first goal of the game. A mix up between Cray's keeper and Centre half led to the defender heading it over his own keeper, into the path of Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, but somehow his shot went wide into the side netting.

Paul Preston and Marcus Elliott linked up well throughout the game and it showed as a nice one two, set up Paul Preston on his left foot, on the edge of the area, but his shot was well wide of the goal.

Alex Stavrinou played the ball into Daniel Francis, his shot was saved well down to his left hand side, but there was Marcus Elliott to prod the ball into the back of the net to give the Millers the lead just before the half time whistle. Cray 0-1 Aveley FC.

Just before the break Cray Wanderers could've levelled, Teddy Nesbitt looked to have been fouled by Keze, but the referee waved it away, Keze was through on goal, but his final shot was low and straight at James Marrable.

Half Time- Cray 0-1 AVELEY FC.

When the second half restarted it was a much more chilled affair, but somehow the Millers managed to double their lead. The ball was in the air, but Nick Taylor under pressure by two of his own defenders palmed it over his own head to Junior Baker, who couldn't really miss. Cray 0-2 Aveley FC.

But only a few minutes later, Cray found a goal back, poor marking back post left Ian Daly with a free header to direct it into the goal, to get Cray back into the match. Cray 1-2 Aveley FC.

The Millers were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe hit one of the best free kicks I have ever seen, the flight of the ball was superb, but it cracked the inside of the post and was cleared. Was so unlucky by Junior, who deserved a goal for his performance.

As Lee Weemes was going through on goal he was taken down by already yellow carded, Boliji, whom was show his second yellow card, and subsequently a red card. Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe free kick was this time just over the bar, really unlucky yet again.

The Millers attacked down the right hand side with Paul Preston, Preston put in a fantastic cross which was first missed by Lee Weemes, but it went into the path of Daniel Francis who smashed it in, all but seal the game for the Millers....Cray 1-3 Aveley FC.

The immense Billy a Holland was substituted off for Mathias Bakare, and just two minutes later, Hill was allowed to run and run and run from one side of the pitch past four Aveley players who didn't put a tackle on him, to take one for the team, he was allowed to continue, and he punished more defending to put Cray back into the game again. Cray 2-3 Aveley FC.

Ultimately with the Millers defence dropping further and further back, the equaliser was smacked into the top corner, the ball came in from the right hand side into the feet of Welford, and he smashed it into the top corner first time to give the Amber Army a point with only ten men. Cray 3-3 Aveley FC.

It could've been even worse for the Millers of not for a goal-saving block on the line by Spencer Harrison to deny Welford and Cray from snatching an unlikely victory.

But in the end the full time whistle went at 3-3, fantastic entertainment for the neutral. Aveley's winless run continues now to seven games.

Full Time - Cray Wanderers 3-3 AVELEY FC.
