Slow start halts Aveley's run

Brentwood 3-1 Aveley.

After just a gap again of one day recovery for Aveley, this game looked it it was one too many after poor fixture arrangement of all Midweek games out the way with in September, leaving barley any full midweek fixture at all in the Ryman Leagues.

The top two form teams battled out a good encounter, even though both sides would have to agree it wasn't their finest display.

Inside the opening minute of the game Aveley were caught out napping at the back, as a ball was knocked forward by Brentwood defence and Courtney White scored a fantastic volley to open the scoring between Town and the Millers. Brentwood 1-0 Aveley.

Avelely didn't react to being out behind and again Brentwood came forward, they forced two corners, but both were punched out by James Marrable in goal for the Millers.

Brentwood attacked again and this time scored to make it 2-0 in just 8 minutes, the ball was played down our left hand side which we failed to deal with, the ball was crossed into the back stick and was tapped in by Sherwin Stanley. There was nothing James Marrable could do with both goals, sloppy defending gave the Millers a mountain to climb in just eight minutes.

Lee Weemes had the first effort on goal for Aveley, but it didn't really trouble the goalkeeper much as Lee was given the ball to him with his back to goal and he turned, shot, but it was a tame effort.

Aveley's next attack they were back in the game, they needed something special, and Petrit Elbi laced the ball into the bottom corner past Ollie Bowles, it was after fantastic work by James Milner, this time on the left-hand side, played it to Petrit Elbi, in the middle, who smashed home into the bottom corner. Brentwood 2-1 Aveley.

Aveley had finally woken up, it was all Aveley, but for counter attacks for Brentwood. Danny Francis took on three defenders and was fouled by Dan Dafter, who was awarded a yellow card. Billy Coyne put in a fantastic cross, onto the head of Lee Weemes, who just headed over the bar.

Our first corner of the game finally occurred, which was followed quickly by our second, but both were defended away with ease due to the height of the Brentwood Town defenders.

Just before the break, the Millers were given another free kick, Coyne stepped up to take it, and fired the ball which looked as though it was going in, but for a last minute block, which deflected the ball wide and out for a corner. Teddy Nesbitt took the following corner, which landed to Spencer Harrison on the edge of the area, but he fired wide of the target, only by inches.

Half Time: Brentwood 2-1 Aveley.

A change at half time as Theo Ola came on for Danny Francis.

Aveley made a quick start to the game as they tried to break down the stubborn Brentwood Town defence, two long throws in by Billy Coyne caused havoc in the Brentwood box, but no one could get on the end of it.

Lee Weemes then had a shot from the edge of the area, and one of the Brentwood defenders saved the ball brilliantly in Marrable esk fashion to prevent the ball by going to the goal, but the referee missed it, even though he was two yards away from the incident, he indicated that the ball struck his head to utter disbelief of everyone at the ground.

A great race between Junior Baker and Brentwoods Alex Akrofi occurred as both were racing side by side to get to the ball, they both go in for a shoulder to shoulder but Junior Baker is too strong for Akrofi who goes down, and amazingly the referee gave another free-kick to Brentwood, just because the opponent doesn't get on the weights enough compared to the man mountain, Junior Baker.

A poor tackle went in on Millers goal scorer Petrit Elbi which left him in a big heel on the floor, free kick given, but no yellow card, even though it was late, dangerous and could have easily made Pet be injured. Subsequently Elbi was taken off and on came Alex Stavrinou, returning from his injury he suffered at home after our fifth win of the season.

The Brentwood goalkeeper pulled off a few good saves in the second half, one from a Lee Weemes shot, and one from a Junior Baker header which somehow didn't nestle into the bottom corner to equalise.

It was one of those games, no matter what you did, it just wouldn't go for you, the drop of the ball in the area, just wouldn't land for us, and in the end, we lost the ball in midfield, they countered down our right hand side, we couldn't get back in time and Courtney White finished off the scoring with a tap in. Brentwood 3-1 Aveley.

Full Time: Brentwood 3-1 Aveley.

We knew that we would lose at some point, but it's how we react to this defeat, we can either sulk or we can fight and win, and try to beat our record we just set. I believe a lot in this team and staff we have, I know we can get promotion and go even further. Play up Aveley.

Marrable, Coyne, Nesbitt, Baker (C), Harrison, Okwera, Elbi, Francis, Weemes, Bakare, Elliott.
Subs: Kanu, Hopkins, Stavrinou, Knott, Ola.
