Millers march on in the FA Cup as they reach the Third Qualifying Round with a 2-0 win over local rivals Thurrock.

In what many people have called a "heated affair" the game itself was far from it.

Thurrock started the game well with the first corner in the opening minute, but it was punched away well by Golden Glove winner James Marrable. Spencer Harrison headed away a from a cross it then landed to Ross Wall who volleyed a mile wide.

Bad tackles were coming in from Thurrock on Aveley players, the earliest one was from Brad Warner on Petrit Elbi, the free-kick was given, but only a talking to. And with that tackle, it didn't really get nasty again within the 90 minutes.

Junior Baker slipped and allowed Ross Wall to bare down on goal, Junior pulled back the shirt of Wall and the referee awarded him a yellow card, the resulting free-kick was headed away by Spencer Harrison, and the follow up shot was miles over the bar, that it almost ended up in Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Aveley started off really cagey, but finally we had our first shot as Petirt Elbi striked the ball well, but was deflected and it took all the sting off the shot and it went into Andy Walkers hands easily.

Charlie Stimson and Ross Wall were constant pests throughout the whole game, but they both just couldn't get their shots to really trouble the mighty James Marrable in goal for the Millers.

Throughout the whole game Brian Okwera was everywhere, when Aveley played good football, Brian was at the heart of it as he sprayed the ball around. When he was needed to put a tackle in he came in and crunched and won the ball, he was definitely superb, along with many of our players.

The breakthrough came as Danny Francis angled his follow up shot magnificently into the top corner of the net as good play by Petirit Elbi played in Lee Weemes whose shot was well saved by Andy Walker, but there was Daniel Francis who spanked it into the top corner. On 32 minutes it was; Thurrock 0-1 Aveley.

Thurrock should have levelled but for the fantastic clearance off the line by Aveley skipper Junior Baker, it was as good as a scoring a goal, the block that he made saved Aveley and kept the lead intact to the half time whistle.

Half Time: Thurrock 0-1 Aveley.

Aveley started off better in the second half then they did in the first, although the Millers controlled the game, no real chances were created.

Thurrock carved another chance as Stimson headed down to Warner, but again fired wide of James' goal.

Marcus Elliott bared down on the Thurrock area, but was bundled over from behind, the Thurrock player got nowhere near the ball, but for some reason the referee waved play on for a reason which left me dumbfounded to say the least.

Thurrock then went up to the other end and missed a big chance, their left back Mark Onyemah skied his shot over the bar, huge chance to equalise but wasn't taken.

The hardworking Petrit Elbi was taken off and on came Mathias Bakare.

Another player who was fantastic throughout was Lee Weemes, his hold up play was something else, he allowed players to get up with him and run past him to get behind the Thurrock back line. He held the ball well on one specific occasion, turned brilliantly, but was being pulled down the whole time, he somehow managed to get his shot off, but because of basically being rugby tackled he directed his shot over the bar.

In the latter stage of the game the Millers made a double substitution as Daniel Francis and Lee Weemes went off, and on came Theo Ola and Billy Holland making his first appearance as he returned from injury.

Four minutes were then added on at the end of the game, and as Thurrock poured forward, Aveley attacked, Mathias Bakare played it to Theo Ola, who ran from the halfway line to the edge of the area, and curled his shot fantastically into the bottom corner to put the game to bed, and maintain the Millers good form. Thurrock 0-2 Aveley.

The Millers march into the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round, which will take place tomorrow at 11am onwards at FA headquarters.

Full Time: Thurrock 0-2 Aveley.
