Millers progress to the Semi Final of the Essex Senior Cup after victory over Thurrock.

The game overall was a slow paced affair, some tackles were flying in by both sets of teams but only is spurts did the action packed parts come in the game, but I doubt it would bother Justin Gardner or anyone associated with Aveley FC.

Thurrock started the better as Thompson attacked down the right and managed to beat Paul Preston for pace, he crossed the ball in superbly to Farrell whose shot was deflected by the Bakernator into the hands of James Marrable.

Minutes later James Marrable was tested again this time from an Ansah free-kick , which was over the wall and looking to end up into the corner but for a superb intervention that denied Thurrock from taking the lead.

Millers came fighting back and it was Petrit Elbi creating his own chances, his effort was a pile driver which went towards the top corner but it was clawed out well by Walker. His second attempt he ran through on goal into the penalty area but again Walker was equalled to it to deny the in-form Elbi.

Thurrock then had the next meaningful attack and should've lead through centre back Clark. James Marrable went to claim a corner, he seemed to just miss the ball and it landed to Clarke who lashed wide from six yards out.

The deadlock was finally broken on the 28th minute, a superb cross from Mathias Bakare landed to Petrit Elbi who connected well to put the Millers infront of Thurrock. Aveley 1-0 Thurrock.

Petrit Elbi was then soon after hacked to the floor from Sutton after the ball had gone and Sutton was awarded a yellow card.

Two penalties could've been given one at each end within seconds. Theo Ola was taken down to the floor by Waters, which looked a clear penalty, nothing given. Thurrock then went up the other end and Paul Preston dived in on Thompson and the referee again was unmoved and nothing was awarded at either end.

Thurrock came banging on the door again, Ansah with a long-ranger again tipped wide by James Marrable. The resulting corner was also then saved by James Marrable from Osonowo's header.

Half Time:- Aveley 1-0 Thurrock.

Millers started quickly on the front foot and it ended with Sammy Knott firing an audacious effort over the bar from 30 yards out.

Thurrock did then have the ball in the back of the net. Ball came in it bobbled to Thompson from Clark's knock down, but Thomson was in an offside position.

Aveley were playing decent football as they popped it around their opponents, only a good intervention from Waters denied Marcus Elliott going through on goal. The second passage of play came as Bakare good cross it came to Marcus Elliott who played it off to Sammy Knott whose just couldn't guide his shot on target.

Thurrock players started to walk a fine line, already on a yellow Sutton dived in on Petrit Elbi, but was only given a talking to. Less then a minute later a horror tackle from Ansah was put on Petrit Elbi, free kick was awarded but no card was given, which really gave Thurrock the licence to carry on with their over zealous tackles.

Only moments later Aaron Waters then lunged in two footed on Elbi, judged to have won the ball, Elbi retaliated with a naughty challenge of his own and was given a yellow card.

You could sense there was a goal coming from Thurrrock as they were given cheap fouls by the Millers, which put Aveley under more and more pressure.

Thurrock equaliser then did come, Farrell with it, one on one with Spencer Harrison, Farrell came inside into his right foot and curled the ball into the far corner. Aveley 1-1 Thurrock.

Thurrock were then going for it as a midfielder came on and Warren a striker came on as they saw the game was there for the taking.

The Millers stood strong and attacked, the ball landed to Billy Holland he decided not to shoot and recycled the ball back to Ahmed Deen, he played it out wide for Theo Ola to beat his man, crossed it superbly onto the head of Marcus Elliott who headed it in the bottom corner to give Millers the lead once more. Aveley 2-1 Thurrock.

Sammy Knott then came off and on came Kyle Asante.

Millers had chances to extent their lead but from the next corner were within a whisker to scoring. In from Deen, Spencer Harrison missed it with his run and it hit Petrit Elbi and went wide of the target.

Aveley came again, great pass from Mathias Bakare set Kyle Asante through down the right hand side, he crossed is superbly but for a great interception Marcus Elliott would've tapped in for 3-1.

Thurrock had one really last chance as Lamar Reynolds got away from the Millers back-line but his left footed shot was straight at James Marrable.

The gloss could've been put on the score line with the last chance going to Marcus Elliott who sprinted clear of the Thurrock defensive but stumbled as soon as he was getting ready to pull the trigger.

Millers March into the next round- the last four of the Essex Senior Cup.

Full Time - Aveley 2-1 Thurrock.
