Rovers were on the road for the second time in four days and again involved in a cup competition, this time defending the Wessex League Cup, they won in May and after a hard fought tie came out on top after a penalty shoot out.

Just as they were forced to play their last cup game with ten men for the second half, they endured the same punishment in this one, when Josh Dean was sent off having been involved in a verbal exchange as he left the pitch at half time.

Resolute, determined, bodies on the line defending and a good all round tea performance ensured it was Baffins whose name is in the hat for the next round.

Baffins could have fallen behind in the opening minute when George Burgess and Cameron Scott dithered allowing Will Prior to nip in, before finding himself on the floor with the keeper.

Rovers took the lead in the 5th minute when Junior Kamara won the ball on the right side of midfield and exchanged passes with Josh Dean, whose effort across goal, was deflected into the path of Tyler Moret, by keeper Ollie Bull, and the striker didn't hesitate to send his effort back past Bull into the empty net.

There was no dithering from Burgess in the next Bashley attack, when a corner was met at the far post by Harry Morgan and headed back across goal, only for the shot to be cleared by the Baffins right back.

Thompson was again the provider when his ball over the top allowed Harry McGrath space in behind the Baffin's defence, only for his first time effort across goal,to go past Scott and the far post.

Midway through the half and a ball into the Baffins box was met by McGrath, however his effort was deflected past the far post and the diving Scott.

A fine fling move saw Callum Dart swap passes with Moret, before finding Kamara, however his effort failed to really test Bull.

Minutes later and Moret combined with Tommy Tierney, to find Dart with a well timed pass, unfortunately he could not keep his effort down, as it sailed over the bar.

Yet another corner and Thompson was again able to win the ball at the far post, only for his effort to be cleared from his own line by White.

At the other end Freeman Williams broke down the right and when he played a clever ball in behind for Burgess, his cross was sent agonisingly across goal and wide by Thompson.

With the half time break looming, the hosts were awarded a somewhat fortuitous penalty, when Harry Morgan made the most of a daft challenge in the box by White, with Scott looking to be in control of matters.

Lewis Ross stepped up to rifle his spot kick high into the net, despite the efforts of Scott, which was swiftly followed by the half time whistle.

H/T 1-1

Baffins came out for the second period with ten men, having lost the services of Dean, who was dismissed for what referee Paul Barber demoed foul and abusive language, having been brought to his attention by his assistant Jordan White.

The hosts looked to make the most of the one man advantage and when McGrath met a Prior cross in the opening stages, he should have done better with his header.

Minutes later and Jesse Gould and Hugh Dathan exchanged passes, with the latter watching as his fierce effort rattled the post and rebounded clear.

At the over end Owen Haly did well to meet a Kamara corner, only to see his effort deflected behind.

Despite the numerical advantage the hosts were finding it hard to get past the Baffins defence which was well marshalled by the determined Haly and Brandon Miller, who were fully supported by Burgess and Williams.

The hosts were again awarded what seemed an easy free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, with Prior already on his way to the deck, before Williams challenge.

Yet again the Baffins defence stood up to the challenge, as they through themselves in front of the free kick, before clearing their lines.

Late in the game the defence was finally beaten when Thompson rose highest to meet a corner, on,y to watch in disbelieve as Scott somehow managed to save his goal bound effort.

Scott was also to have the last word in the second half, as he somehow manage to divert behind an effort from substitute Harry Bunce.

F/T 1-1

So the game went to penalties, with Ross first up for the hots, having beaten Scott n the first half, his second attempt was fired over the top of the bar, advantage Baffins.

Miller stepped up for Baffins first and his effort was fired into the back of the net, as was Tierney's effort, which was duly followed by Scott, who thumped home.

With Rovers maintaining the goal advantage throughout, up stepped Haly, who with little run up calmly fired home and immediately put his finger to his lips, as if to silence the crowd.

This was duly followed by the final Bashley penalty by Prior and his miss was meet with jubilant scenes by the Baffins players, as they ran to keeper Scott to celebrate.
