The only thing that has stopped the league before covid, were the two world wars, so it was with great relief we started up again on the 4th of June.
Our first fixture was away to Gartocharn FC on their new pitch, unfortunately we had to concede the points as we couldn’t field a fully registered team due to several players being registered with their winter teams.
Despite early chances and a missed pen for the Rovers, Gartocharn opened the scoring on their new pitch to go one up on the night,
A young and makeshift Rovers team took the game to Garto and the boys were playing well and passing the ball with pace and accuracy against a well organised Garto team, marshalled by the ever present Graeme Mckenzie.
It took the Rovers David Reid to break forward from his defensive position to bend a 22 mtr shot in the postage stamp corner of the goal to equalise for the very slic away team.
The game was more even in the second half with both teams having chances but the winner came after some nice play down the right resulted in a clear cut penalty from which Gordon Reid converted with some style after having to retake. A 2-1 win for the rovers to start the season.
