Brett Ormerod says he was delighted to be offered a role as part of new manager Jamie Milligan’s backroom staff.

The Brig boss announced prior to last Saturday’s win at Whitby Town that the former PNE and Blackpool striker, who also ended his career at Irongate, has joined the coaching staff on a part-time basis.

Speaking about how the offer came about, Ormerod said: “Milly got the job and he and John Hills asked me to come and help out and take a few training sessions every now and again.

“I’ve known them both a long time and they’re both great lads.

“I played with them both as players, John with two spells at Blackpool, and Jamie obviously at Brig as well as Blackpool.”

Ormerod spent his final year as a player at Brig, after the persuasion of the then-Brig captain Paul McKenna.

And the 43-year-old is eagerly anticipating a return to the club as a coach.

He said: “I’m looking forward to going back – there’s a few familiar faces there, Boothy and Lawls are still there, and there’s Ali as well.

“I was delighted to be asked and it is one of those things – hopefully I can try and help play a small part in bringing a bit more success to Brig.

“They’ve got a great management team so if I can come in and help in a small way I’d be delighted.

“Bamber Bridge is a great club and I enjoyed my time there (as a player), they’ve got a great set of lads and the supporters were always fantastic, so I’m looking forward to going down and bumping into a few old faces.”

In terms of the club’s style on the pitch, Milligan said last week upon his appointment that he and Hills wanted to change the way that Brig play.

And Ormerod says that he shares those same philosophies.

He added: “They want to play a certain way with good attacking football, pretty much the way that me and John wanted to play at Fylde.

“If I can come in and help in any way I will do, and I’ll just take it as it goes.

“I’m working with just the squad as a whole and I think I’m doing a bit with the forwards as well, but it will be a bit of everything.”

The 1-0 win over Whitby last weekend gave Milligan his first win as Brig boss, in his debut game.

And Ormerod was pleased to see the regime get off to a winning start, and also said that he would try and attend as many games as he can when available.

He said: “I believe it was a tough game in difficult conditions, but it’s always great to get off to a winning start.

“It’s a shame that the game (against Ramsbottom on Tuesday) was cancelled, but I will try to get down to the games to watch if I’m free.

“I’ll be coming down to as many games as possible, so I’m looking forward to that.”
