Bamber Bridge Football Club are deeply saddened to hear about the death of former player George Melling, following his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
George played for Bamber Bridge in 2007 and he was hugely respected in non-league football and beyond.
Former manager and good friend Neil Crowe has spoken earlier today saying, "George was a warrior and a leader on a football pitch and definitely one player you wanted in your team when things were going against you." He also added, "Off the pitch he was a funny guy, quick witted with a great sense of humour and also a big heart."
The upcoming Bamber Bridge Vets game against PNE Legends will be played in honour of George and we are hoping to have his family present to hand over the Trophy which is named after him.
Everyone connected with Bamber Bridge FC sends their heartfelt condolences to George's family and friends.
RIP Big G
