Banwell gained their first three points of the season at the first time of asking against a good Cheddar Reserves team.
Banwell started off brightly and matched Cheddar playing the better football in the first twenty minutes. They got their reward when the Cheddar goalkeeper fumbled a catch at the feet of Dan Smith who was able to roll the ball in to an empty net to get his first goal in his second spell at Banwell. Banwell then doubled their lead when Stuart Miller slotted Grant Evans through on goal who was able to sublimely dink the ball past the keeper. Cheddar’s strong pre-season became evident as they created several good chances towards the end of the first half and could have pulled themselves level were it not for several good saves from Banwell goalkeeper Matt Hill.
Cheddar dominated the second half and spurned chances but did eventually pull a goal back with a neat header. Banwell dug in and managed to create several chances themselves through hard working wingers Adam Bobruk and Dylan York but were unable to convert the chances. Banwell however managed to hang on and clinch their first three points of the season.
Although far from a vintage Banwell performance there were several stand out performances from wingers Dylan York and Adam Bobruk, along with a determined performance in midfielder from Grant Evans, but the NHS man of the match went to Matt Hill.
