Dave Rollitt, the only player to play for Barnsley and then be called by England Mens, has died recently.
He was a Wombwell lad, attended Barnsley grammar school and played for the club before moving up to Wakefield. He read physics at Bristol Uni and did teacher training at Loughborough, before returning to teach in Bristol. He played for Bristol over 400 times from 1964, scored over 100 tries, and won 11 England caps and played for the Barbarians many times.
He was a speedy back row forward, with an early show of grey hair, and should have been in an England shirt more often.
He and his wife were our guests at the Hub opening at the time of the Rugby World Cup in 2015, and he enjoyed catching up with several Barnsley veterans. Dave was a great player, a great bloke and we send our best wishes to the family.
