History:

One of the most famous and best-loved amateur soccer clubs in the Midlands area and the oldest in Solihull, Silhill Football Club was founded in 1908,
the same year as the Birmingham District Amateur Football Association was formed. The local Solihull Grammar School, dating back to 1560, played rugby
instead of soccer, and so a group of 15 far-sighted Old Boys decided to break with that tradition and founded an amateur association football club reflecting their true passion, Silhill.

In 1908 Bill Furse (born 1891) had been one of “the few” who established Silhill Football Club. His slightly younger brother and fellow founder
from Solihull School Old Boys, Thomas Alan Furse (1892-1970), commissioned with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, succeeded him to become the Club’s
longstanding President over three terms (1921-23, 1926-39, 1947-60). The Furse family were residents of the Moseley area of Birmingham.

In the Summer of 1919, a meeting was held to re-establish Silhill Football Club, and a start was made as before the War with two teams. Having been elected
to the Birmingham AFA in 1911, Silhill has remained a loyal and active member ever since. In those early days only friendly games were played between AFA
teams. But 1923 saw the establishment of the Birmingham & District Amateur Football League of 24 clubs, and in 1926 Silhill narrowly lost its first
Senior Cup Final 0-1 to King’s Heath.

Playing in the Birmingham & District AFA on Saturday afternoons, Silhill teams also enter the Amateur Football Alliance London Cups
and the Birmingham County FA Saturday Junior Cup. As League membership has steadily increased, so have the number of Silhill teams entered,
and accordingly by the 1982/83 season a Silhill 6th team was fielded.

Because of its high profile in the local sporting scene, Silhill Football Club has always benefited from a steady influx of new players,
from teenagers to seasoned pros. This has been achieved without organisational links to any commercial, professional, financial or educational body
to provide resources and a reservoir of fresh playing talent. Over the century many thousands of sportsmen have played for the Club at some time or
other in their careers. In 2005 Silhill registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
