Barwell vs St Ives Town (H) 22nd March 25

Tom Sutcliffe22 Mar - 23:52

Brilliant Barwell battle back to record back to back victories

Barwell came from behind on non league day to record back to back victories for the first time since October to move 6 points clear of the drop zone.

Manager Jimmy Ginnelly made just one change following last weeks away win over Leiston, Will Highland returning from suspension to don the gloves.

The first 20 minutes were uneventful, the visitors controlling the majority of the ball but failing to really test Highland

Ash Chambers gave Barwell a 27th minute lead after the visitors controlled the early stages. A brilliant driving run from Richards saw him deliver a pin point cross onto the head of Chambers who wasn't going to miss from 6 yards.

7 minutes later St Ives were level, a long throw caused havoc in the Barwell box and caused a miscommunication between Highland and Brown-Hill allowing Glennon to tap home from close range.

Just before half time Ives took the lead. Amir Hardi picked the ball up on the left touchline, cut inside before rifling the ball past Highland into the top corner.

As St Ives looked to close out the closing stages of the first half they gave away a soft free kick 30 yards out. Hickey's free kick was delivered perfectly behind the defence allowing Chambers to tuck home from 6 yards.

Half Time Barwell 2-2 St Ives

Barwell started the second half as they ended the first, Richards and Hickey played two 1-2s between themselves with former finding space to smash the ball beyond the Ives keeper from a tight angle, his first goal for the club.

Highland made a couple of couple crucial saves including a finger tip save when a St Ives long throw seemed to come off a Barwell head.

Lita had a chance to seal it in stoppage time, his strength holding off the defender before firing his effort millimetres wide of the far post.

St Ives had one late chance, a long throw from their right finding the attacker free 6 yards out but he couldn't keep his header down.

The final whistle blew and the 400+ in the Crown Skip Hire Stadium breathed a sigh of relief as the Canaries put 3 more points on the board, a crucial step in their bid for survival.
