Jimmy Ginnelly's Barwell side picked up a strong 3-0 victory away at Kettering Town on Tuesday evening.

Barwell got off to a bright start, with Zeph Thomas squandering a chance in the opening minute of the game. Kettering striker Rene Howe then had two great chances in the space of ten minutes, but couldn't finish either of them past Liam Castle in the Barwell net.

The atmosphere heating up during the second quarter of the game, with some of the referee's decisions being deemed controversial by the home supporters.

The teams went into the break level at 0-0. That didn't last long, however, as Ryan Robbins powered his header into the net in the 46th minute.

Another headed Barwell goal followed suit 10 minutes later, with captain Craig Stanley getting himself on the scoresheet to double Barwell's tally.

Barwell were comfortable with their lead throughout the second half. With 15 minutes left to play, young substitute James Daly steered the ball home to make it three for the visitors.

Kettering's Rene Howe got sent off in the closing minutes off the game for a challenge on Craig Stanley, but Barwell kept possession well and comfortably closed out the game.

Reacting after the final whistle, Barwell manager Jimmy Ginnelly said:

"Very disciplined performance from the lads. The first half petered out, they didn't threaten us and we didn't threaten them.

"In the second half, we decided to go with a different shape. I knew the Kettering manager was going to change their shape, so we decided to do the same. I think our shape worked better than theirs."
