Following the decision at the end of the last campaign by Ray Walker & Pat Walsh to step down after an excellent debut campaign in the NSL senior Division, then the club have worked patiently on putting forward a new Management team, as well as adding support to the Basford United FC club scouting requirements.
Therefore the club is absolutely delighted to report a new management team of Michael Leslie, Mark Clarke & the promotion from within of Willis Francis.
Michael Leslie will be the new manager at the helm of the CFC NSL Premier Division challenge for 2017-18. Former Ruddington Village FC manager Leslie who led the surprise package to the excellent 2015-16 Senior League title expressed his delight to join the Basford project stating ‘it’s a really good club with clear ambition and it’s going to be really exciting to continue the good work that Ray and Pat did last season. I see my job to continue the development of the team to compete in the NSL whilst also preparing and equipping the talented young players with the characteristics required for Evo Stik first team football with Martin. It was a difficult decision to leave Ruddington but I’m really looking forward to this new challenge ahead.’
Joining Michael’s management team are Mark Clarke and Willis Francis. Mark returns to the club having been Assistant Manager to Martin Carruthers with the Basford United first team for 3 years through a really successful period for the club. Mark after his departure has made massive steps in obtaining his professional coaching qualifications to broaden his wealth of experience & focus more on coaching. Marks role which encompasses coaching the Community team, mentoring its young players to ready them for the 1st team environment and also working as a Basford United FC 1st team scout to support the club’s player recruitment.
Former Basford and Notts County FC player Willis Francis is rewarded with a progression to this group. Willis will also assume a coaching role for the Basford Community senior team. Last season he successfully managed a very young Basford Community FC reserve team in its first season in senior football which encompassed primarily 16 and 17 yr old players. Willis has recently completed his level 3 coaching qualification and as a former player alongside manager Carruthers he fully understands the philosophy and style the club are trying to establish through all of its teams.
The club would like to place on record a big ‘thank you’ to Ray Walker and Pat Walsh for their fine work last season establishing the team in the NSL league in what was the inaugural season in senior football for its young players having previously competed in U21 football in 2015-16.
With such a close link required between the Basford United Football Educational academy and our Senior section, then the club feels these appointments as well as that of Chair Adam Beazeley is a very positive move to ensure a constant escalator of talent coming through the system.
