Bees reach new heights

Basildon followed up Tuesday night win with a thumping four-nil local derby victory at Lower Road against Hullbridge Sports.

The visitors took an eleventh minute lead when the ball was laid back to captain John-Joe Slater who then fired into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season. The lead was doubled nine minutes later when Lee Delf controlled a cross from Joe Skills on the right before firing home.

Hullbridge did go close on a couple of occasions through Charlie Little, but it was Basildon who grabbed a third. Nathan Dewbery collected a flick on before firing past Sports keeper, Charlie Aldis six minutes from time to give Bees a three-nil lead going into the break.

The home side came out stronger in the second half, but were unable to really test Liam Pitts too much in the Bees goal. The scoring was wrapped up six minutes from time when second half substitute Lee Scott saw his first attempted saved by Aldis before firing in the rebound.

Hullbridge did come close late on when Little's attempted rattled the crossbar, but it wasn't to be for the hosts.

The win, coupled with results elsewhere sees Basildon move up to second place, their highest position of the season so far.
