We will be asking these players who would be in their Dream XV.
Looking through the archives at Doncaster RFC we found our former coach and Wales A full back Brett Davey's Dream Team which has a massive Beddau look about it.
Note that this team was selected over two years ago.
Brett's team in his own words-
15 Brett Davey – I am going to have to pick myself aren’t I.
14 Gareth Wyatt – The best footballer I had the pleasure to play with for four years. Pass off both hands, kick off both feet, pace and ability to beat a man.
13 Nathan Walters – He was my outside centre when I went to coach my local side, Beddau. Aggressive player with good skills. Defensively excellent. Always made things happen.
12 John Bryant – A hard-nosed 12 who would run through brick walls if needed. Played with chronic knee problems. Coaching Newport nowadays and doing well.
11 Nick Drake – He was an English Schools sprint champion and I played with him in a sevens tournament. Incredibly quick and powerful.
10 Neil Jenkins – A living legend. Kept Wales competitive during the 90s. Still incredibly humble. Also still incredibly tight as well. You won’t catch him buying the first round.
9 Paul John – Loyalty costs nothing and he stayed with Pontypridd when others left. Great player, now coach of Wales’ sevens team.
8 Phil Ager – When we were at Caerphilly he was playing as well as any number eight in Wales. With the right club he would have been awesome.
7 Steven Cole – Was my captain at Beddau. Would never ask a player to do something he wasn’t capable of doing himself. His skills were not the best but he made up for it with the best attitude I have seen from a rugby player. He would lie down in traffic for any one of his players.
6 Dale McIntosh – Along with Paul John, the player I look up to most. Incredibly powerful tackler. Awesome off the field.
5 Andrew Gwilym – The best 20-year-old player I have ever seen. Andrew retired very early. Great story of Alan Davies asking him: “How would you like to play for Wales, sonny?” with his response of: “Nah, can’t be bothered.” Played at Bridgend together.
4 Christian Bundy – Another Beddau product and the only man I know to be capable of playing second row and full-back – he did it equally as well.
3 Ashley Copic – Had his career not been blighted by injury I am sure he would have been spoken of in the same way as the loose-head I have chosen. I reckon he could play at outside half with the amount of ability he had.
2 Mefin Davies – Now at Leicester, but when the Celtic Warriors went bust he was not picked up by any region. Went to England as Wales No 1 hooker and has been terrific for whoever he has played for.
1 Gethin Jenkins – The best loose-head who has ever played the game. Incredible workrate. Exceptional for the last eight years.
There will be more dream teams over the next few weeks.
