Please welcome Craig Mackail-Smith to the Eyrie.

Bedford Town Football Club is delighted to confirm the registration of Craig Mackail-Smith. The striker comes to the Eyrie following a successful twenty year career, the large majority of which has been spent in the Football League.

Mackail-Smith started his career at St Albans City, where he was loaned out to Arlesey Town. Whilst with Arlesey, he stared in their 4-2 FA Trophy win over Dagenham & Redbridge in 2004, and this was enough to get signed by the Daggers later that summer. Having scored 38 goals in two and a half seasons, Craig completed a transfer to Peterborough United. A successful four years followed at London Road, making 185 appearances and scoring 80 goals.

His time at Posh came to an end, when he registered for Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion for £2.5 million in 2011. Having played regularly in the Championship for the Seagulls, he moved back on loan to Posh and joined Luton Town in 2015. Last season, he spent time on loan at Stevenage, but was a part of Wycombe Wanderers successful promotion to the Championship.

Now at 36, Craig has decided to extend his playing career by going part time and we are delighted that he has decided to join the Eagles. Playing for us will enable him to focus on developing the next stage of his career, whilst the club will benefit from having an extremely experienced Football League striker involved.

Speaking to www.bedfordeagles.net, owner Jon Taylor said "We're delighted, amazed, thrilled to have secured the signing of Craig to the Eyrie. When the opportunity to sign such a prolific striker comes up, you don't turn it down. The conversations to get him involved were really straight forward, and his passion for the game is clear to see when you do speak to him."

Taylor continued "Craig will be a massive boost to us on the field, hopefully converting the chances we have been making throughout the season so far. We also hope his experience will be passed on to our younger Eagles starting to make their way into the dressing room."

Sponsorship of Craig is now available. You can now sponsor him, or any other available player, via the club's player sponsorship scheme. Please contact Martyn on 07841 762813 or commercial@bedfordeagles.net for more information. Sales are going well, so please contact them to secure your favourite player before someone else does!
