Bedford Town Football Club are saddened to learn that former Eagles player David Sturrock, has sadly passed away aged 84.
Born on 22nd February 1938 in Dundee, David Sturrock began his career with his local club Dundee United, turning professional in 1955, aged 17. Sturrock enjoyed a five-year spell at Dundee under the management of Reg Smith before joining Accrington Stanley for one season at the turn of the decade.
Sturrock, an inside forward for the majority of his time at Bedford Town, was reunited with then Bedford Town manager Smith, who made him his first signing at The Eyrie in 1961. Sturrock featured in epic matches, including the 2-1 win over Newcastle United on 4th January 1964 and scored the only goal when Bedford beat Oxford United 1-0 in the FA Cup second round replay on 16th January 1967.

Sturrock went on to make 274 appearances for Bedford, scoring 122 goals making him the second leading scorer in the ‘old’ Eagles’ post-war history.
Sturrock left The Eyrie in 1967 signing for Corby Town and later for Rushden Town, before moving back to his hometown of Dundee after the end of his playing career.
A marvellous talent who was a joy to watch, from all of us here at Bedford Town would like to offer our deep condolences to David’s family and friends. His achievements at the club will forever be cherished by supporters.
