The Eagles were knocked out of the Beds Senior Cup against a strong Luton Town development side. Millar Matthews-Lewis and Joshua Phillips were on the scoresheet for the Hatters against a ten-man Bedford side.
The game got off to a cagey start, but Luton were showing how strong of a passing side they were early on. Neither side had many chances of note until halfway through the first half.
In the twenty-fifth minute, the Hatters took the lead through Millar Matthews-Lewis. A good ball to the back post found Matthews-Lewis who easily tucked the ball away.
Five minutes before the break, the Eagles were down to ten-men. This was after Shane Bush put a heavy challenge in on Josh Allen who was racing through on goal, the referee deemed this red-card worthy and gave Bush his marching orders.
The second half began with lots of Luton pressure who were looking to capitalize on the one-man advantage. Josh Allen had a good chance to double Luton’s advantage, but Mark Smith made an excellent save.
The Eagles were pushing for an equalizer and almost got one. A great ball by Mark Smith found Lynton Goss up front and his effort was fired over the bar.
With just under fifteen minutes to go, Luton doubled their advantage. A corner in made its way to Josh Phillips who piled the ball home to make it 0-2 to Luton.
Luton saw the game out from this point as Bedford were knocked out of the Beds Senior Cup. All eyes on a massive game at the top of the table as the Eagles travel to North Leigh in two weeks’ time.
