The Eagles were absolutely battered at home against Tamworth in a one-sided affair. Tamworth made the journey down to Bedford for this fixture.
Tamworth started the game very well as they took the lead within two minutes. It was after a long ball from goalkeeper Jasbir Singh who smashed it up field towards Dan Creaney and he took it to the right and then finished past Alex Street to give the away side the lead.
Bedford seemed rattled by this goal but Tamworth were still on top. Alex Street was tested by Luke Fairlamb but he saved well. Tamworth were having the better chances in the game but Bedford had quite a bit of possession. Alex Street made a good save to the top left corner after a through ball.
It wasn’t long until The Lambs had scored a second. It was after a cross to the back post where Dan Creaney was there to head home much to the delight of the travelling Tamworth fans.
Dan Creaney had a great chance to get his hat-trick. He touched the ball down and had an easy shot but he skied it over. There were plenty more chances before half time (most of them were Tamworth chances). The first half finished 0-2.
The second half began and it was more of the same. Tamworth scored a third very quickly. The ball was played across to Ty Deacon who volleyed it low past Alex Street. It was four not long after. A ball was played through the middle and the Bedford defence switched off as Dan Creaney took it past Alex Street and slotted it in for his hat-trick.
This was followed by another Tamworth goal. It was a long ball over the top and Kyle Finn’s shot was saved by Street but the rebound hit Finn and rolled in to make it 0-5.
To make matters worse for Bedford, they were soon reduced to ten men. Kai Phelan slid in and caught the Tamworth defender and the referee deemed it worthy of a red card and sent Phelan for an early bath.
Tamworth capitalised on this and scored a sixth. This came after a goal line scramble in the Bedford box led to Alex Street pulling off a great save but the rebound was smashed in for Andy Peaks' side.
After this, Tamworth were awarded a penalty after the forward was pushed over in the box. Substitute Alex Jones took and scored after he struck it past Alex Street, despite Street diving the correct way.
The Lambs didn’t stop here as they scored an eighth when a corner was swung in and the header was thumped in by James Hurst.
Despite the scoreline, Bedford scored a consolation goal. Joe Butterworth received the ball from far out and his low strike found the bottom right corner.
A very disappointing performance from the team as the Eagles concede eight goals at home for the first time since May 1939 when Rushden Town thumped Bedford Town 2-8. This stat was provided by Bedfordoldeagles site. We now move on to Saturday against Hednesford Town.
