Wycombe Tournament - Unlucky Dynamos

Iain Willcocks17 Apr 2016 - 12:30

Great performance in first tournament !

Wycombe Tournament

Team: Jay, Edward; Ollie, Callum; Conor, Kai, Charlie, Harry; Owen

On a wet and miserable morning at Cressex Astroturf, Dynamos U10’s were invited to play in the Wycombe Wanderers ran tournament.

Six teams were invited to take part in the tournament:

1. Bedgrove Dynamos
2. Holmer Green
3. Marlow Youth
4. Wargrave Wolves
5. Yately Boys
6. Princes Risborough

Dynamos 3-2 Holmer Green

A tough start for Dynamos, who started well, with Charlie smashing in the opening goal after some good footwork. Holmer Green then equalised to make it 1-1.
Next up was Callum storming down the right flank and hitting a great shot past the keeper. 2-1 Dynamos. The killer goal came from a corner from Kai and Charlie hit the back of the net. 3-1 Dynamos.
Just before the end Holmer Green hit a shot passed Jay to make it 3-2 final score.

Dynamos 2-0 Marlow Youth

Fellow Green League team Marlow had lost their first match against Yateley and came out strong but Ollie and Callum were cleaning up at the back. Edward made a couple of early saves.
Dynamos were soon in front when Charlie’s persistence sent Kai free and his shot beat the keeper. 1-0 Dynamos.
It should have been two when Kai’s cross found Conor free at the back post but he missed the target with his shot.
Soon after Dynamos got there second with a quite stunning strike from Harry. Kai was the provider with a ball over the defence and Harry hit a volley over the keeper into the corner. Great goal. Final score 2-0 Dynamos.

Dynamos 0-0 Wargrave Wolves

After two strong matches, Dynamos faced a decent Wargrave team. Both teams traded shots with Dynamos on top with possession and chances but both teams couldn’t find the target.
Owen had a chance which went wide and Charlie had a shot well saved. Jay pulled off a couple of great saves to keep a clean sheet. Final Score 0-0.

Dynamos 2-2 Yateley Boys

Yateley had already won two of their first matches and were very confident. Their nippy striker soon put them 1-0 up after a loose pass from Ollie. Dynamos were playing well and soon after Charlie found Kai with a great pass and Kai finished into the bottom corner. 1-1.
Half way through the game more pressure from Yateley saw them take the lead again. Charlie and Callum put some pressure on but Yateley were holding firm. With less than a minute remaining, Owen, who by his high standards had been quiet all morning, latched onto a high ball from Ollie and he lobbed the keeper from just inside their half…a great goal. Final score 2-2.

Dynamos 3-1 Risboro Rangers

The final group stage match saw us play a string Risboro team who were the pre-tournament favourites. Risboro started with some great passing football and buoyed by the fact they had already won all four of their previous games, took the lead with close finish at Edwards far post.
Dynamos then sprang into action. Firstly Risboro couldn’t catch lively Callum and he exchanged a one-two with Charlie and hit the back of the net. 1-1 Game on.
Next Charlie set up Kai who hit a great shot past their keeper. 2-1 Dynamos. Edward again made a couple of saves and Conor and Callum were defending for their lives to hold the lead. Final action saw Owen pass to Kai and his shot was heading in but Harry arrived to get the last touch (I think) and make it 3-1.

Dynamos were the only team to remain unbeaten in the group stage of the competition.

The final phase saw the top 3 team all play each other one more time to determine the winner.

Dynamos 1-1 Yateley

After drawing with Yateley earlier, Dynamos were sure they could defeat them this time. Owen went close early on with a shot just wide and Kai also had an effort saved.
Finally Dynamos got the deserved breakthrough when Charlie eluded a challenge and found Harry. Harry then hit another superb shot from 20 yards out which looped over their keeper and into the goal. 1-0 Dynamos.
Yateley however were not to be beaten and they rallied well and got an equaliser towards the end of the match. Final score 1-1.

Dynamos 1-3 Risboro Rangers

The final match for Dynamos on the day was a “must win” match against Risboro. A victory would have seen them crowned champions. After the “mums” fed the boys lunch, they went out with full stomachs and sluggish…! Risboro were also ready to fight for everything after being humiliated by Dynamos earlier. Risboro stormed into a 2-goal lead as Dynamos could not keep pace. Charlie then got taken out by a “strong” challenge and had to leave the field. Risboro found the net a third time moments later to put the game beyond Dynamos.
However, a late rally saw Harry set up by Kai to make it 3-1 and a couple of late chances for Conor and Owen which were both well saved. Dynamos lost 3-1 but a great game.

With Yateley causing a real upset in the final game of the tournament, defeating Risboro 1-0, it meant Yateley won the tournament and Risboro came second. Dynamos were a very creditable 3rd despite only losing 1 game all morning.

All of the team played their part and can be very proud of the result. Only losing out to two teams in the top league.

Callum was superb all morning thwarting many attacks and was well supported by Ollie and Conor. Charlie ran the midfield in most games. Owen was quieter than usual but scored a peach of a goal and Kai waded in with a few goals too. Jay and Edward conceded very few goals (best defence in the league) which was excellent. Finally to Harry who scored 4 goals including a couple of great strikes, one of which was a sweet volley into the bottom corner
